Designer Orla Kiely Curtains and Blinds

Orla Kiely is a fashion designer renowned for her unique retro plant based prints – but who is the lady behind the pattern?

Orla Kiely, pronounced ‘Kylie’, is an award-winning Irish born designer who now resides in London. Her passion for pattern started from a young age and her designs are heavily influenced by her childhood surroundings, she loves to create retro patterns inspired by 60’s décor and colour trends.

She studied textile design in Dublin at the National College of Art and Design before moving across the pond to New York where she began to work for a fabric and wallpaper designer. Kiely then went on to study her masters at the Royal College of Art in London when she moved to the UK to work for Esprit’s a well-known fashion manufacturer.

Since founding her own business in 1995 her nostalgic designs have been featured on fabrics such as Roman blinds & curtains, homeware, hats, bags, clothing, postage stamps and even cars and buses! In fact, she originally started out by designing only hats, until she branched out to handbags when her dad commented that everyone has a handbag but not everyone wears a hat! Since then her product range grew and grew, so thanks Mr. Kiely!

Not only have her designs been worn by the royals, they have also seen Orla Kiely be awarded an honorary OBE in 2011, in recognition to her services within the fashion industry!

As big as Orla Kiely is in the fashion world, all of her products are fairly priced, meaning you can add a designer touch to you home without breaking the bank! The beautiful designs really are a staple piece in any home, and as retro as they are they can still be used in a contemporary home as they are so versatile.

You could dress your windows in made to measure curtains or roman blinds, if you have plain coloured walls – this helps to break up a block of colour and can really add a playful, modern touch to your décor. Scatter cushions can also be used to mix different patterns and prints to create a unique look personal to your home.

You could even choose to make a really bold statement and incorporate a full feature wall from her wallpaper designs,

If you’d prefer something more understated there are many smaller home accessories available in her range such as her kitchen and bathroom ware.

Our favourite home addition in the Orla Kiely prints has to be a roman blind, not only are roman blinds smart and contemporary they add a chicness to any room, and with these beautiful designs they’re sure to bring a smile to your face whenever you enter your room. The fabric designs hang perfectly and creates a really crisp, clean look, due to them being 100% cotton.

They look fab in smaller rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms and bring a burst of colour and personality, without being over powering. They also look great when paired with the Orla Kiely kitchen canisters in the kitchen and, also the luxurious hand towels that are available can really set off a roman blind in a bathroom.
